Wings of Hope
Yesterday around 3:00 PM, our family and another family from church went to a ace called Wings of Hope. It's where there are horses and people from 3 to 72 with disabilities. By them riding on the horses it helps built up muscles in their body. And my friend Moriah and me and going to volunteer there once a week!! It is really exciting. They have 19 horses and 90 riders. They have three or four classes a day. I am not sure what day of the week we will do it yet. But, at first you are a sidewalker or a spotter. A sidewalker is where you are beside the person on the horse and you hold on to them and talk to them. And a spotter is where you just walk on the side of them and make sure they are on straight, and if they aren't you tell them to scoot over a little, and you talk to them. It depends on what kind of disability the rider has. They may not be able to scoot over and you have to do it for them. And other times you can just tell them to and they will. The instructor makes sure the saddle and everything is right, and goes into the middle of the arena. She tells them to move their arms in circles,or put their hand behind them or something like that! And you sometimes have to help them. They let us stay to watch one of their classes! There was a 17 year old gentleman, Jonathan. And he could do a good bit where he only needed a spotter. He was sweet. He shook our hands and said hi to us! :D and the other rider was a 6 year old boy, Nathan. He got a short little horse! :D
And if you get 25 hours of volunteering in, they will give you free riding lessons!!!! :D and also, you get to be a leader, as in you lead the horse around. For the rider. And you will eventually get to groom the horses and such! So, it will be a great experience! We are wondering if someday Peter Helms will be able to come there as he progresses!
Also, Mr. Helms told everyone an update on Peter. They said that he has been able to start craughling on the mat, with his mother helping some. And he is able to hold his head up on his own a good while! And they are holding him up on his feet, and they said that he looks content when he can do that. :) and a few days ago when he was in his wheelchair, he took his right foot off and on the ground, and started pushing his wheelchair back! They said he did that for a good while! He is starting to want to move around and be productive, Mr. Helms says! Keep up the praying, please! :D
God bless,
~Emily
P.S today is mommy's birthday! :D
